Life Is What You Make It.: By Peter Buffett

How does one define success?

Grads should base success on substance, not sums

This month, thousands of young, bright, ambitious students will hear words of wisdom from politicians, economists and celebrities. No doubt some commencement speakers will reflect on the uncertain times in which we live and the importance of solid values in a world that too often honors the payoff more than the process. So I would like to focus on a question that graduates may be asking themselves. How does one define success?

By Peter Buffett

You may think that question is pretty ironic coming from the son of one of the richest people in the world. But, actually, it might just make me an expert on the subject. You see, my dad, Warren Buffett, is the poster person for the question. He has all the money anyone could ever want.

But buying more objects wouldn't make him happier than he is already — doing what he loves. If success is defined by material possessions or one's bank statement, success then is fleeting.

Personal passions

But if success is measured in personal accomplishments — Are you living up to your unique potential? Is there passion and originality in your life and work? Is there fundamental value in what you're trying to achieve? — it can never be taken away. In short, success should be defined by the substance of what you're doing. To paraphrase my father, "Do you tap dance to work?"

And if one is fortunate enough to achieve substantial financial success, how much is enough? What are today's Wall Street titans and CEOs spending their bonus money on and, more important, why are they spending it the way they do? Their need to line their pockets speaks to the larger issues of personal responsibility, moral bankruptcy and the need to fill some bottomless hole in their personal psyches.

Martin Luther King Jr. was right when he said, "America has been a schizophrenic personality." This country was largely built on dominating and exploiting, so it is no wonder that this behavior is now in the fabric of our banks and corporations.

Listen to inner voice

I hope the message students hear this year is attuned to their own inner voice. It's the voice that tells us the world is made up of relationships, which, if nurtured and respected, leave everyone better off.

My parents instilled in me the belief that I could be anything, but not that I could do anything I pleased.

They showed me that I lived in an interconnected world in which everyone has something to teach everyone else and that my actions mattered because they had an impact, often in ways I might not see or understand. By listening to the voices of others, I would learn more about myself.

We are indeed living in times in which too many people have erroneously decided that their only interest is financial gain and material accumulation, and that it is acceptable to leave nothing of social value in their wake.

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, "You can't solve a problem from the same consciousness that created it. You must learn to see the world anew." All graduates have the ability to see the world anew, to place their best values at the forefront of their lives and create a more just and equitable world in which success is measured by what we create for each other.

This generation has the opportunity to create families and build communities that are founded on real trust and can support business leaders and politicians who look them in the eye and say, "We are here because of you, so we will honor your needs and protect what you hold most dear. And, most important, we will make sure future generations are left with a better world." That is success. And that is enough.

Peter Buffett, a composer, is author of Life Is What You Make It.

First Preview of My Book

Dear Friend, Do you know?

What is the ONE thing that transformed failures into success for people like
Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs,Ted Turner, or Bill Gates?

Just one thing : Mindset.
And do you know….What really cause failures?   The Mindset again.

It is not our circumstances. It is not the conditions we are born with. It is not poor schooling. It is not bad times and bad luck also.

It is our Mindset that creates Success or failures.

Before I get down to success formula let me ask you…Do you have the passion for life? For success? For achieving the highest level of excellence? Do you have a dream to follow?
Don’t worry. You are not alone.
There are many others who dream like you.  And do not make it.

Why is it so? What is the right way to create happiness and success in life?

In my E-Book where you will get to read my Personal Notes, you will realize, to be successful in personal and professional life, you need to have different approach, different Mindset, different thinking and perspective.

I can assure you, I do not promise, because success begins with you.

By the time you finish reading My Personal Notes, you will have a complete idea about how you should put your best foot forward to avoid frustrations and failures.
Whatever your age...16 or 60.

I will take you through a step-by-step build-up to improve your personal and professional skills. No big talk. I will show you simple solutions to change your odds in life.

I believe, If we are a problem, we are a solution too. Yes! by the time you are finished reading my notes, you will have a formula embedded in your brain for successful living.

People like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Ted Turner used their power of mind and became winners by defeating their circumstances. They did not have degrees from colleges to make it big in life. In fact, some were college drop outs and some school drop outs
But, they still are highly successful individuals in life, and the world is often stunned with their success stories.

How did they make it big?

Let this be your first lesson,
Your success is,  Your own creation

And I am going to tell you how?
Soon this E- book will be available to you on line. It is in a PDF format. Those who would like to know the principles of success and happiness, feel free to write to me in the comments box at the end, your interest to receive this E- book.  I will mail you the complimentary copy.

Listen, Learn and Grow

What do I have to offer you if you are an ambitious entrepreneur ?

That would be a good question. I think I have lot to offer. Not because I have 30 plus years experience but because of my creative bend of mind. I feel if one is creative in his or her thinking, one can see many stumbling blocks as challenges to come up with ideas to pass. Creative mind is capable of generating new ideas to solve challenging problems. With the experience and creative vision, I am better, If I may claim with modesty.

I am from the creative side of marketing communications. So this professional strength makes me understand market dynamics and marketing dynamics easy to see through. My understanding about finance management, business administration, human management,  and production management is exceptionally good and therefore getting positive results in each of these specialized areas is not so difficult to manage.

Business management requires vision, dynamic approach and a plan to succeed. I plan my work then work my plan to move forward.

Lee Iacocca said once.

You can have brilliant ideas,
if you can't get them across, your ideas won't get you anywhere.

How true it is.  We can only move to accomplish a goal when the vision is cast clearly, creatively and consistently.

Most of us learn the hard way. Anyone can dream. Knowing how to work the plan of Action  for yourself and your organization, so that the vision can be realized,  is essentially very important.

And leading others in the right direction  to help translate their dreams into reality,
the pleasure is all mine.

SMS- Simple Management Solutions

SMS: Simple Management solutions
And Simple Marketing Solutions

This is what exactly SMS stands for.

I have been thinking for very long time, how do I share my 30 plus years of experience from business management and can be of help to those struggling, hard working, ambitious entrepreneurs who have energy, ideas, skills to start a business but no business vision to make it a success story.

I see many in my everyday socializing, the one area that many lack in their understanding business dynamics is, the good knowledge of Business Management that covers essentially finance, production, marketing and business administration.

Many are thorough in their professional skills and start an ambitious project, either on own or with some friends as a team. They all have good experience and excellent product or service to offer to potential markets but don't have the business vision that is essential to make it a success in the market.

I strongly feel from my own experience,  however excellent an idea  may sound for business, only the IDEA is not sufficient. To make that idea successful, to turn it into a profitable business,  you also need to understand, finance management, production management,. HR management, and to get business  running  profitably, Marketing management. That is marketing your concept at profit for doing business successfully.

Doing a job with a company is one thing,  and doing your own business is entirely another.

You need all these set of skills, not just one, or two, but all,  to set-up  the business, promote it, run it at profits, grow it, and stay ahead of your competition. It is not a simple task. But  it is also not a difficult task.

Many do it successfully so why can't you? YOU too can.

You too can, if you  acquire the skill sets. You too can,  if you get out of your skin, talk to experts, identify your problem areas and look for solutions. The best way is to keep your mind open, listen to successful people in the business,  and just do what is best for your business.

Feel free to share your trouble spots. May be simple solutions can change things into better business for you. Let me know if you want any ideas to turn your  business into success. If it is not going to cost you a penny, you must take the offer with open mind.

The key to success they say is " Be a good listener"
